Are atm's found easily on the island ? Also do they use travellers checks and
credit cards at restaurants and the dive charters ? I guess I should have been
doing more research instead of diving last weekend. I avoided using a credit
card in Cozumel and would like to do the same in Grand Cayman but would certainly
need access to atm's for the day to day stuff.

There are numerous ATMs at supermarkets, banks, and various other locations on the west side of Grand Cayman(George Town, Seven Mile Beach, and West Bay). There is only one ATM for the entire eastern three quarters of the island.

Major credit cards (Visa, MC, Amex) are widely accepted at restaurants, dive shops, and most retail establishments. Discover card is accepted at some locations.

Travelers cheques are accepted widely same as cash however change will normally only be given in Cayman currency.

tons of ATM's around, and everybody accepts credit cards

Grand Cayman is basically like going to Miami, only further south

[edit] one minute too slow! :)

Thanks, I appreciate the info. I'll probably just use the atm's day to day
and use cash on the charters and at the restaurants, thanks again !

You do get dinged a little on the exchange rate when you use a US credit card or US cash. I don't think it's as bad if you use an ATM and get Cayman money.

Either way be prepared for prices that are quite a bit higher than in the US (except Alaska and Hawaii).

Have fun.
