I have been diving for about 8 years now all of it up to last week in a warm water enviroment, the Red Sea is on my doorstep. About 2 years ago I did a Dry Suit course up in Aberdeen Scotland with the intension of diving while I am on holiday back in Scotland, never followed it up due to work comitments etc. Last time I was back home in bonnie Scotland I bit the bullet and treated myself to a Scubapro Everdry4 Dry Suit, 5mm Gloves and Hood. I had a wonderful time did 5 shore dives in and around Loch Fyne Argyle, its a wee bit different and the bigest thing I had to get used to was completing drills in 5mm gloves and a small issue of a neoprene neck seal that was trying to strangle me. Followed some good advice and streched it over a tank for a few days, its still tight though.

The underwater scenery was very atmospheric and vis was about 5 meters, max depth on the dives was 20 M, loads of congers, scallops and squat Lobsters on every dive. It was amazing, but seemed a lot more serious than my usual Tropical Reef senario.

I can thoroughly recommend Diving Cooler waters if you get the chance, water temperature was about 11C or about 52F, which the locals were saying was warm!

As a newbie drysuit diver myself, I highly recommend you give the neck seal some time as long as it's not tight enough to cut off blood flow. It does get more comfortable. You may want to look into dry gloves too. Not only it's warmer but dexterity is much better.

Thanks Hudson,

I must admit I was thinking at one point the neck seal was much too tight, but have been told it will loosen with age!

I also treated myself to a weight harness I struggled with having so much weight (24lb) on a belt, It distributes the weight really nicely on the shoulders and makes shore diving entry and exits a lot easier. Looking forward to diving dry again when I get back to Scotland end of Sept.
