Hi everyone, i certified earlier this year before going on a trip to borneo where i completed 6 dives at Sipadan. Those 6 dives cemented my love for diving and made me take the decision of following this vocation further. Unfortunately i live in dallas at the moment and dont know any other divers that would mentor my progress. Ideally i would want to take a divemaster internship early next year. Until then any help in getting affordable training and equipment is appreciated :)

Not bashing in any way but have fun and get some dives if before drinking the padi Kool-aid.

The two upcoming cool events in TX are trashfest in New Braunfels and DUI will be coming to do the normal dog-days again in Terrell. The DUI dog days usually has an ex GUE instructor show up to help at the event and a good group of tech and qualified divers never fail to meet there. Overall if you hang at at Trashfest and dog days it will get a good introduction to your options around TX as people show up to those events from all over.

Welcome! Enjoy your learning and have fun beginning your journey.

and since you are from Florida, what do you think about diving in key west?

any of the Keys are awesome to dive. I go to Key Largo every Labor Day and it is always incredible diving. Any time you can make it to the Keys DO IT! :)

Don't rush into professional status, and if you are thinking of trying to make a living that way, do a bunch of reading in the "Going Pro" section here. It's not easy to make a living with anything related to recreational diving, and it's not a very good living if you can make it work.

One of the biggest problems with dive education today, I think, is that too much of it is done by people with very little diving experience and mediocre skills. We'd be better off if more folks would wait to turn pro, and get some more education and training.

i had something different in mind when i meant pro, guess i should have been more specific. By pro, i meant get really good at it, intern somewhere for a couple of months and maybe teach/assist on the side. But i ll take a look at the going pro side ;)
