Hello all,

Has anyone seen an ascent rate monitor that uses numbers instead of a graph?

You know like a speedometer.

I have the Oceanic Pro Plus 2 computer and use the ascent graph built in.

I don't especially like it - I'm either too slow or jumping into the red and there is definately some noticable lag time in the response.

I would love a speedometer type that actually shows your rate at 30 FPM or whatever rate you are ascending.

The UWatec depth gauge shows your ascent rate as a % of the maximum allowed. It also makes a great backup dive timer/depth meter.

I'll vote again for UP's suggestion. It has one HUGE advantage over monitoring your gauges constantly, which is that you can stay in visual contact with your buddy while you do it. It does require that there be something in the water to see, but the only place I've ever been where I think I couldn't have done it was a 100 foot plus visibility day in Molokini. Otherwise, there's always something.

I would suggest to keep a constant eye on the gage. This is the only constant reference you have. Many times there are particulates you can monitor, but in case there is not...you dont want to have to 'get used to looking at your gage'.

As for team awareness..... look at gage, look at team member, look at gage, look at team member.... etc.

But there are many roads to Rome
