ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! A friend of mine sent this to me.
It is a hoax. It is retouched. The actual pic was that of a porpoise (admittedly, a 30 footer) that the diver had been interacting with during an "Eco-Dive" in San Francisco Bay. The diver was never in any real danger in that he'd "bonded" with the porpoise just a few minutes before this photo was taken. This type of dive, offered by the Alcatraz Dive Emporium in Oakland, has been widely criticized the diving community in general for obvious reasons.
 
If you pick up any of the recent dive related magazines, Force Fins used this photo in their ads since the diver on the ladder is carrying a set of their fins! pretty funy actually!
 
Looks like a great way to go "fishin' fer th' big'un!"

Of course, not if you're the "bait"...
