I was pondering this today and can't find information online, and my LDSes are closed, so here goes.

With OW certification, it's possible to do classroom training in one location and do the open water dives elsewhere. Not sure about AOW, as I did class work and skills in one place.

I'd like to take the Rescue course in the next couple years. I'm looking at the PADI course materials (my LDSes are all PADI affiliated) and it's hard to tell if doing dives separately from classroom and pool work is offered..

So, does the PADI Rescue Diver course have an option to do the dives at a separate location?

The Rescue cert is a tad different because there is a non-diving prerequisite course required, Emergency First Response (EFR). There is both a book and classroom component to this course and you must pass it before you can complete the PADI rescue course. As for your original question, I took the PADI on-line course, which covers all of the class work needed. After successfully passing the on-line course, you will get a certificate from PADI which allows you to go to any qualified PADI instructor and take the confined and open water portion of the course.

I hope that helps.

Happy Diving!
