How universal are lighting systems?
Ie. if I buy a gates housing, can I buy salvo lights, or ikelite lights and attach them to the housing?

There are several people that have integrated Salvo lights with Gates housings. With their cylindrical batteries it would be a pretty simple process.

Which Ikelite lights would you want to use with the housing?

I have not even gotten that far, I am still just researching, any recommendations?

I wouldn't recommend Ikelite as video lights. Their Pro Video light is a decent light but you really need a set with two light heads.

My personal preference are Green Force. Depending on which housing you are looking at, you can go with the HID 50's or HID 250's.

Hey Joe, how are you ?

The Green Force lights are great, but expensive at $2k. The Ikelite pro is about $600. You could get 2 and still be a lot cheaper. Not as sleek, mounting is a little more bulky and it's halogen vs. HID, but sometimes costs is the most important decision.

The buyer could always start out with a single if they are tight on $$ and then get a 2nd when costs allow. A 2nd lamp does make a big difference evening out the lighting, but if the choice is a single lamp or nothing, I'll take the single.

Just a different point of view here.

are the green force 2k a piece or for a set? Like I said, I am still just research (and saving). I see somepeople use a UK dive light with a diffused (much much cheaper), and does their quality compare??

2k for the set and does the UK flashlight compare ? a.......... no.

Just remember, you'll use your lights for closeup macro shots, night dives or inside a cave/wreck. Everyplace else lights won't be powerful enough. If you are shooting clear tropical water, medium and wide angle shots, use a filter.

I agree with Joe about the Greenforce. I'll be buying a Flexi II with TriStar LED head for $865 on Tech Diving Limited. When I finally get a housing for my video camera I'll also buy an HID video light head. That's what I like about Greenforce, you can buy an entire set-up a bit at a time
