One of my instructors calls the dive log book the "Lie Log book" because anybody can write whatever they want and make up signatures and dive buddy names, for a soft copy log you can be using a computer that is not yours for example, at the end it is your responsability your own live when you dive only with your buddy that lie the same way and you don't rent the service of a Divemaster or a instructor to guide you on that site, there are many ways to cheat the system I guess.
In my case if I want to proceed with the rescue course he wants to see at least 36 logged dives preferably 40, but with the "stamps" of the Dive Center/resort, not buddy dives logs, it can be from any agency he just want too see the stamps, I guess you really want to cheat if you make your own stamps that is why it is less unlikely to cheat that way.
I totally agree with his point of view since we were discussing that there are to many new divers that some agencies get them from OW all the way to DM with not really a lot of experience, plus there are the cheaters
Saddly it had become a rutine that they are not verifying the log books at least to check for Dive center/resort stamps, but probably they don't want to scare away customers that bring a plate of food to the table, the way I see it.
