firstly, i gather that you are looking for a budget housing. Otherwise you would be looking at gates or amphib.
Be careful which budget housing you are looking at, a flood rarely is inkeeping with your budget!!!

These housings are very bouyant, check out the 4 lb lead under the housing on the main shot "7.4lbs without BALLAST" they say.

Mark my words, you will be taking this housing to the workshop to modify after the first dive. Oh and its kinda expensive for a waterproof tube. The handles on the side are industrial lock handles and not what ur looking for in a housing.

one very important note - here is a quote

"4. Will the Aqua~Cam accept video lights if I choose to use them?

Yes - many video light systems use a mounting plate called a "universal T-block". One or more T-blocks can be mounted virtually anywhere on the Aqua~Cam's shell. They are attached with two short machine screws that go about halfway into the shell wall (not through the shell wall)."

eurrghh!! drill and tap your housing?????? half way through the wall??????????
GET REAL.

What you NEED are hard mounting points, because you WILL want lighting later on. Lighting is rarely lightweight, so a machine screw in your housing wall will last about 3 seconds when you drop off that boat and impact the water. My HID lights weigh in at 1.8kilo each.

You will need some mechanical controls, namely-

power - because your cam will go in standby mode after a few mins of inactivity (between shots)
rec/stby - because you dont want to continously record.
focus lock - for those awkward shots

Lastly they state only one seal "x" ring (basically a fancy "o"ring), hmm, only one seal, to save your expesive camcorder, hmm. Your choice there mate!!

All is not lost, I did have a housing almost identical to this one, which had some of the drawbacks of this one. It would take too lond to explain all that i did, but i stuck it on my website.
go to the CAMTECH section at www.divetheworld.org.uk
My housing was custom made for the camcorder, for £375 GBP thats about $525.

hope this is of help.

I'm trying to find a housing that is not too expensive but will grow as I learn more about this. If the Aquatix housing is out (and it is after going over divetheworlds points) My next question is, Has anyone had any experience with budget housing like the Gates Guppy or others?
