I am leaning towards the Cressi but I am worried about the availability of shops who can repair and parts. I am a new diver and will be diving mostly warm water but may do cold sometime in the future.

Titan LX.

Shown to breathe better. Has a pneumatically balanced second stage which means that as the pressure in your tank drops, it will still maintain its ease of breathing. It also has the adjustment knob, which you can set to a "-" when entering the water...minimizes free flow.

As if you need another reason but here it is....if you buy your reg now you get the octo free! (I think that special goes until sometime in July, but you'd have to check.)

Its the better reg.

Don't buy a titanium reg. There's just no point.

The free reg deal is on until July 31st or "when supply is gone." The air balanced second on the LX doesn't deal with lower tank pressure. The balanced first does that. The advantage of the air balanced second is that the initial inhalation effort can be a bit less because the spring can be adjusted lighter since air is doing most of the work.

I have a AL Legend and I just got my daughter an AL Titan. If you will be diving cold (LESS THAN 40) you should get a sealed first like the Legend or a Titan LX Supreme. I would go with the Legend because, even though it costs a bit more, with the octo deal you get an identical air balanced Legend second as the octo for free. This octo is expensive and with the (depth) overbalanced first of the Legend you have to have it. The same arguement goes for Apeks.

If your definition of cold is not that cold the Titan LX is a really good reg. The plain Titan is just about as good. With the octo deal I got one for a great price with octo from my LDS.

Disregard the following if you don't want to consider other choices...

For parts/service/quality in a cold water reg I would look also look at the ScubaPro Mk17. If you are lucky (e.g. Dallas) and have a good local Zeagle LDS look at them as well but parts/service are harder to find locally.

So it's now between:
Titan LX
Sherwood Magnum
Cressi Ellipse Tit.

Anyone have a strong preference? (and I know you all do)

I must echo most of the previous replies: Definitely the AL Titan LX! Parts are available worldwide (not that it will need them anytime soon) and it breathes very well.

The free octo program is indeed as good as it sounds.

If you're thinking about doing any tech diving, the Titan LX would not be my reg of choice. I'd definitely look at a Scubapro MK 25 S600. The MK 25 first stage is engineered to handle the rigors of deep diving.

However, for recreational diving you cannot go wrong with the Titan LX. I own one myself.

Where is the best place to buy the Titan LX and what is considered a good price?
