I own an Aqualung Legend ACD.

Do any of you use the cap? I seems to me that the auto closure device's works better than without the cap. When screwing the cap on, it turns, twists, and generally doesn't feel secure. It also gets in a way.

Should I just take it off and be done with it? Is it safe?

Well, I suppose if you never dry the dust cap and you've got water on the first stage inlet, it might do less harm if you leave it off. As for me, I pay more attention to my regs, and I use the little black rubber cap religiously.

I have an legend ACL for recreational use, and sometimes it does duty on stage bottles. I always make sure there is no water in the inlet, dry the cap with some air from the tank when I am done diving, and put it in place.

I actually called Aqualung tech support about this. Their suggestion was to put the cap in place, but not tighten it enough to open the ACD. Just lightly tighten to keep it covered. (Belt and suspenders, as they say.)

It still protects the face of the sealing surface from impact with dive bag stuff. Using the Legend as a stage bottle is like putting a Ferrari behind a plow mule.

Sounds good. I was afraid whether or not half-tightening the cap would be worse than leaving the cap off altogether.

That is a good one. Thats the best analogy I have heard in a long time. True, but still made me laugh. Ferrari and plow mule, I like that.
