Hi all,

I am considering buying my first BCD, and the Aqualung Axiom seems really nice. Ideally I would try it before buying, but it seems that none of my local dealers have this brand (and I also don't know how much value it has to try it in a shop when it has to be used in the water).

I am 5'10, weights 175lbs, measures 37-38 inches around the waist, and got 42 inches over the shoulder. On the size chart, this places me just between the "M" and "ML". Are there any people my size who has experience with either size?

My gut feeling tells me to go for ML, but I am a bit affraid it would be too big considering that I am just on the lower interval of height and over-the-shoulder. With the M I would at least be in the middle of the interval for "waist" and over-the-shoulder. But I am not a slim guy, so it somehow feels wrong to go for an M....

Thanks for your help,

Myrup

I wear a medium AL axiom and it fits me well with or without my full 3mm wetsuit. I'm 5'10", 180 and waist is 34. I tried it on at the store and it is what size I rented for a while too so I knew that the fit was good for me.

It would be nice if you could try them on first to make sure; if you are not sure about the size it may be worth looking at the brands you can try on locally as long as they are options you like as well.

Occasisionally (regularly if you believe Aqualung) BC's do need to be serviced also. So where can you get that done? Aqualung also has pretty regular required service intervals on their gear to maintain warranty compliance - at least for a couple of years.

While it's likely rarely needed there are a few threads in our recalls forum concerning bc's - often there seems to be something wrong with the weight pockets and they're just replaced free under warranty.

Something to consider...

Thanks for the reply skeptic. Would you say you could fit into your BC even with a 2-4 inch wider waist? Cheers, M.

I am 5'10" 160 lbs. 40" shoulder. 30" waist. I wear a size small Axiom i3. You would most likely be fine in a medium.

what kind of wet suit are you wearing to dive? makes a big difference, I have a Large that i wear with my Whites Fusion Bullet drysuit and 14mm wet suit, and a ML i wear in the Caribbean with a 3mm or less. I am 5'8 200lbs. with a 34 waist and wide shoulders. So depending on what type of wetsuit/drysuit you are wearing can make a big difference.

Hi pinshootr, thanks for your reply and help! I usually dive in a 3mm wetsuit. So maybe I really could fit into both M and ML....
