My Apeks inflator valve is leaking out of the base of the metal piece that actually connects to the inflator hose. I had shop remove it, and we discovered that the plastic threads are completely worn away in some places. I am curious why Apeks makes inflator valves like this instead of having a metal connection with an o ring. I have never taken this piece out before, and my dry suit has sustained no abuse that isnt standard from frequent diving. I have owned my suit for about a year and a half and I have about 100 dives on it. These plastic threads seem like a cheap way to get people to have to replace their valve every year and a half or so.... Is there anything I can do about it besides get a new valve? I would prefer not getting a new Apeks valve if it is just going to do the same thing again though
 
You can replace it w/a standard inflator valve.....It should fit the corrugated hose.......The location of the mouth piece is different.......

Not a good substitute for a drysuit inflator valve.

The main valve body of the inflator is molded without a thread, when the connector is added, it is self-tapping and cuts thread into the body. This can leave debris tangles around the thread of the connector inside the body but this is normal and doesn’t pose any threat or cause any leak, there is an ‘o’ ring that sits at the base of the connector that seals it against the main body, it would be this area that would be a leak path if there was something wrong with the o ring or dirt etc.
When the connector gets removed, the thread won’t look fully formed but this is normal due to the connector making the thread. They have been made this way for years with no issues. There has been no reason to make changes.
If a new, clean, lubricated o-ring doesn't solve your problem, have your dealer give us a call.
