Hi all, been using an Apeks egress as my octo setup and been having a few problems with it constantly leaking air(no freeflow) everytime it is moved thru the water.
I have tried positioning it in every conceivable position(mouthpiece up/down,low/high on my body, even tucked into my B/C pocket) and nothing seems to alter it.
The unit is brand new and done 6-12 dives.Anybody else had this problem and any suggestions for a cure before i return it to the LDS i bought it from?
It is coupled to a dst first stage and a XTX50 primary.
The rest of the Reg setup is superb and the egress breathes really well aprt from this slight leak issue.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Actually, your LDS is the first place to go. Many octos need to be 'de-tuned' a little. Air flow on movement is a kind of free flow. The reg's diaphram is probably just a little too sensitive to the presure differentials that happen when you are moving. They can turn the sensitivity down a little.

Cheers Catfish,is this a simple tune and will it change the performance of the reg noticeable?

It should be a simple tune. The performance difference might be slightly noticable if you are highly sensitive to breathing resistance. Usually, this is considered okay in an octo, because the octo is only used for emergencies and high-performance is usually a secondary consideration.

Many thanks, looks like a visit to the LDS is in order tomorrow then.
Thanks for taking the time out to answer my question.

FWIW, we've had these for about a year and don't have problems like you describe. Ours are just in octo holders similar to snorkel keepers, mouthpiece up. Occasionally it will freeflow upon jumping into the water but a quick bop will stop it. (Pretty much like any nicely tuned octo in my experience.)

So you have had no problems at all with these octos?
I have had no freeflows on entry or at depth,i have done a full dive on this reg and had no problems with its breathing, but even then i couls feel slight leak constantly 'bleeding' into my mouth, even when not breathing from it.
From your experience i could possibly have a faulty reg,i will try to have it detuned and if that has no improvements i will have it exchanged.

no, no problems, I like it. Apeks makes good stuff. Maybe something faulty but much more likely improperly tuned. (or maybe even a high IP from the first stage but your primary is dealing better.) If your shop is half competent they will figure it out. Don't just ask for it to be detuned, describe to them what the problem is.
