Anyone have a oly C-60 with a PT-024 houseing? Do you like it?

I have that combo. I got it a couple of months ago and have been using and getting used to the camera and it's features. I upgraded from an older Olympus so the format was familiar.....The camera is great. 6.1mp, long battery life, small, nice screen. I haven't used the macro settings but I know I need to get familiar with them.
I just had a chance to use the housing this weekend. I have been assembling new and old gear for my Little Cayman trip and wanted to shoot some pics in the pool to get familiar with the housing. It worked great. The controls are all well placed and easy to work. The housing is very solidly built. It is slightly negative, and handles easily in the water. I even tried out the movie feature which may turn out to be cool in LC. My 5126Xd card holds about 20 min of video time. So a couple of 1 min. vids along with pictures should be good. Because of the way the Oly's turn on (opening the front slide cover) you can't turn the unit off during the dive. But I don't think that is going to be a problem because of the excellent battery life.

I, too, would love to hear commens from anyone else who might be using this setup.

I tried mine Sat, the darn thing had gone into sleep/idle by the time I hit the water -- what wakes it up, or do you just set the Sleep to maximum time, make sure to push a button once in a while? Thanks.

Some of the Olys wake up when you depress the shutter half way - try it on land and see what happens.

Hi,

I've used mine for about 35 dives in the murky waters of The Netherlands.

Pro's:
Easy to handle, great pics, well thought over and built housing. Good quality/price ratio.

Con's:
Won't flash in super macro mode, recommended ISO value 100 or less needs a lot of light in the local conditions (needs external flash)!

Great combo, now in use by my wife; got myself a 5060/PT020

Ciao,

Pennywise,

Have you used the white balance adjustments on the c-60? Which automatic settings (sunlight, overcast, tungsten, flourescent) work in your experience.

Thanks in advance.

SRQDave,

In the begining I used a dive light with 20watts halogen bulb (3700 degr.K) All my pictures came out yellow/red (ish). For that set up needed to switch to WB overcast.
Then I changed over to a HID dive light with 5500 degr.K colour temp. That worked out a lot better and with WB set to AUTO most pictures had the right (natural) colours.
Quite a few were still a bit under exposed, so yesterday my wife tried ISO200 and it seemed like she didn't loose too much sharpness!

So, the present set up is:

5500 degr.K dive light
ISO=200
Shutterspd=between 1/100 and 1/160
Aperture 5.6--8.0
WB=auto

As said before, this works for the circumstances over here in The Netherlands. For clear water adjust the settings accordingly..

Hope this can be of any help!

Regards,

Pennywise

P.s. can we see same examples of your results so far?? I'm in the office now and will send you some pics when I get home from work.

Pennywise,

Check out my gallery. These are from my recent trip to Little Cayman.

This was my first time using this camera. (First time using any UW camera, actually)

I took a bunch of pics and by the last dive I think I was getting my settings right.

These were all shot with the Oly C-60 and the PT-024 housing with the internal flash and no strobe. I did lot's of experimenting with the flash diffuser and flash settings.

I think they turned out great.
