Busy checkin out Utila as a possible dive trip. Anyone stayed at Mango-Inn before? Any opinions on the resort or other possible recommendations??

Thanks

I have heard some good things about Mango....actually im not sure how you could go too far wrong in Utila no matter where you stay and ive stayed in several places. However it would probably be worth a call to Laguna Beach Resort. This is the slow season and its even slower now with the News media ganking tourist business with half truths and creative journalism. Most places like Laguna are giving a discounted rate, I stayed there a week during August when i was in Utila for the month and i believe It was about 800 USD for 3 dives a day, a night dive, 3 meals a day, great accomodations in a very private location with ur own beach and pool and quite possibly the best dive boats in all Utila. The DM/Instructer..Mike..knows where everything is....and their equip, fill station is immaculate....
Give it a shot...or Mango, Deep Blue, Utopia...U cant go wrong and u will probably get a better price then expected at any place u decide upon right now.
Enjoy yourself and drink a Salva for me!

Hi,

I live on Utila and can give you some input. Mango Inn is located away from the harbour and beaches and is a very nice place to stay but it is not a traditional "Resort" as you have to be transported to and from Mango to their dive operation at UDC.

There are a few "Dive Resorts" here that are on the water and have their dive operations on site:

Utila Lodge - Located in town and you have access to town at will.
Laguna Beach - Located on the south shore and requires a boat trip to get to town.
Deep Blue - Also located on the south shore and requires a boat trip to get to town.
Utopia - Also located on the south shore and requires a boat trip to get to town.

If I can help in any other way, just ask!

Thanks so much!! Do you know if there is popularity amongst these resorts among divers? I have read so many mixed reviews for all of them so I am completey befuddled as to which one to go with.

I am hoping to see some whale sharks during their migration season if thats what one would call it.

Also - is the diving quite diverse in terms of north versus south shore?? Or is the South Shore most popular for diving??

Really appreciate the input!

I have stayed there and it is simple, but clean, good air conditioning, pool, Pizza place, bar, and beautiful gardens. It is not far to most things and they will transport you. The owner is very nice guy who will go out of his way to make your stay a nice one! I would recommend them highly!
