Well, since I'm a poor college student I was looking at Gunter's in Utila. I don't require too much, just a clean private room, I don't want bedbugs. I've got some studying I can do in the evenings so I don't need entertainment and just want to knock out 25-30 dives in 6 days with hopes of seeing a whale shark. Gunter's may fit the bill but wanted any input from those that may have been to Utila. Also, do they offer Nitrox?

Thanks,
-Chip

It is a good operation. Run by a guy named Hans Grauer. March and april best for whale sharks. /go to www.aboututila.com. Find dive shops....go to ecomarine/gunters look through the lodging options available. I'll be there on February 20 for about a month. Probably be doing a lot of diving with them, always do.

Regards,

Do you have any recommendations for accomodations and food? They offer the backpacker lodge for $10 per night but I don't want to be fighting bugs while trying to sleep. Also, A/C would be nice if I could find another place that wasn't too much more.

We usually stay in the Hotel Rose above the hardware store, across the street from Deep Blue Divers. Then find a furnished apt. for the longer stay. Capt Jacks good break fast and good inexpensive lunch. .. RJ's, Daves, Mango Inn, Jade Seahorse and may others. Just walk along main street or best yet ask the instructors at Gunters.
