I have a YS-01 and used it for a week on a recent liveaboard trip. It worked great, battery life was good, it recycles quickly, and the DS-TTL auto mode works great with my Canon G11. I used Energizer rechargable batteries and it could easily keep up with my camera battery for a couple dives. I was quite happy with it. The focus light was a great bonus, on night dives it was enough to let me drop my larger light and use it to get in position for a shot.

I don't have a S-2000 and have never used one so can't comment on it's controls. The YS-01 is pretty simple. There is a 4 position selector switch to turn it on, first is off, next position is manual with preflash, next is manual without pre-flash, and finally there is DS-TTL with pre-flash. The same switch has a center pushbutton that toggles the focus light on and off. Then there is a 10 position dial that is for manual power, or for exposure bias in DS-TTL mode. So it's pretty easy to use overall.

What kind of housing are you using with the G11? I just got a quote from Reef Photo for the YS-01. I have the Canon housing and am looking for something simple.
Thanks

going to be using a FIX housing with the G11. It will be delivered to me on Friday. I decided to go with a more powerful strobe (inon z240) and one that will be compatible with my SLR should I choose to go that route. My SLR does not have onboard flash.

I have the Canon housing. I blacked out the flash area of the housing except right where I put the fiber optic cable. This cut down the backscatter from the built in flash.

In my experience (which so far is mostly on land) the dial in the YS-01 does nothing at all when you are in TTL mode. I had to use flash exp. comp. on the camera to change the strobe's output power. I'm using a Sea & Sea camera though.

If there is a way to use the dial as exposure comp, I would love to know!
