Good Morning, I was getting ready to sign up for a local scuba class in Ohio this afternoon and started checking, Airfare is dirt cheap to Florida. Checking some local dive shops I see that Lessons are cheaper in Florida "supply and demand I guess" I could fly to Florida and with airfare included it would only be 100.00 more than it would cost to do it in Ohio, and instead of a cold Gravel Pit I could do my check outs in Key Largo over a coral reef. The shop I talked to is called South Beach Divers. Anyone heard of them? And any idea about cheap lodging close by? Would not want to spend a fortune on lodging since I would only be in the room to sleep.
Thanks

Thanks

Call these guys http://www.bluewaterdiver.net/ , Brent is a Great instructor, they can get you hotel, etc. They are at Mile Marker 100 in Key Largo.

Cars may be a little tough right now there, I could not get one out of Homestead. I guess all the insurance adjusters have the rental cars. lol

It's almost always better to learn at home unless you simply can't find a good instructor in your area. When you travel for an OW course, there's pressure to get it done quickly. You'll be a better diver if your class is spread of several weeks.

How about doing the class, getting it right in a reasonable amount of time in your own back yard and then when you have a little more cash free again pay for the flights, hotel and dives down here at a later date - when the water up there is a little colder? I like to take vacations to relax, not go to class - but that is just me! ;)

No saying you cant do what you are suggesting, but are you intending to dive in the OH and great lakes areas? If so then it would definately be better to do the course at home.
