Hello, just wanted to know if anyone has dove any rigs this
year, and if the diving was good. Also what the prices and dive operators were like.

Thanks,:)

are you interested in spearfishing or just seeing the sites? Reason I ask is there are several good operators for spearfishing trips but if you are not spearing you wouldn't want them ,also you wouldnt want to go on a sightseeing trip planning to spearfish.spearfishing trips I am familiar with cost 125-150$ per diver.

Thanks for the reply jones,
I'm looking for site, I havent been spear fishing yet but some day
have you been this year? how far out water temp vis. I havent been out there so I trying to find out as much as possible.

Thanks,
:D

haven't been salt water spearing this year yet .a couple freshwater spearing dives .but I have several trips in the gulf scheduled aug 2nd and aug 30 with one of the boats out of sabine pass .You have to go out at least 9 miles to get into federal waters but the boats may go out 60 or 80 miles or more.the vis is unpredictable it may be 80-100 or 15-20 but sometimes the poorer vis makes for better spearing. as far as temps check http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/Maps/WestGulf.shtml for up to date reports and predictions just click on the bouy closest to your dive site.the boats usually go where ever they have to to find fish .some rigs may be bare and a rig 1 mile away loaded and it may be just the opposite next week. I think both the dates I mentioned the boat still had room .do you have a speargun ? the dive shop I have the 2 trips with will rent them if you dont . there is another boat that goes out of port aransas I want to try also I was real impressed with the owner http://www.tbdiving.com when I talked to him .he has a boat he will take out for 450$ with a max of 3 divers .usually later in the summer there is less chance of a cancelled trip unless a hurricane comes through.sorry for rambling .

joens, thanks for the info. I dont have a spear gun and have never gone spear fishing. I want to get some salt water dives in before I try spear fishing I only have 22 dives all fresh water.
I met a diver that has a big boat and is willing to take it to some rigs but we dont know witch ones we can dive. Would you be willing to go with us, and do you know some rigs we can dive?
Let me know thanks alot.:)

I would love to go with you however I live in north texas .I dont mind travelling but I have pretty much every day off already scheduled till middle of sept. if you have a outing planned after that let me know. As far as where to go try http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fish/reef/artreef.htm for actual coordinates try
http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fish/reef/2003 reef.pdf you will need adobe acrobat reader for the 2nd one. there is a good article on rig spearing here http://www.slinginsteel.com/articles/oilrigs10-02.html mind you we dont have the deep water those boys in louisiana have.
more later

Me and one of my good freinds are wanting despertly to go spearfishing this upcomming weekend, I have a boat ready to go I just need 1-2 more divers to bring the cost down. The cost of the boat will be 480 dollars split however many ways. I've never went with these guys before but I've been diving out out of this boat for almost 5 years ..ie. the boat was recently sold. We depart from Sabine pass , anyone interested please contact me through PM or i can be emailed at Ncrowe@aol.com We'd prefer to go this Friday but will go saturday if need be. Also if anyone already had a trip planned and needs 2 more divers count us in.

Just to clarify this is the weeknd of the aug1-3
