This is an awful tragedy for all the locals... the tourist areas just get the most press. We do not want to deprive much needed dollars by cancelling our trip but it certanly looks like that may be the best move. Donation accounts specifically for the locals would be nice to see?? I can't seem to get Scuba Club on the phone to find out any specifics on their condition either. Anybody see or hear anything on their condition?

We had a reservation for Oct. 31st and talked to their booking agent in Houston today. What they told us was that they weren't taking any new customers until after November 15. They are trying to rebook folks for then. She said that some divers were at the resort now and rode out the storm. She also said the building was standing, but they had a lot of clean up to do. That is what we were told, hope it helps.

There is a donation account set up for divers to help the dive community. It was first set up during Hurricane Emily by Christi (of BlueXTSea) and Johnoly at D2D on Scubadiving.com as a grassroots effort to get money to out of work DMs, boat captains and dive industry workers. It has since been reactivated to help with Hurricane Wilma. 100% of the money collected will be distributed to dive industry workers. You should be aware, however, that as a grassroots effort, this is not tax deductable organization - it's simply a couple of people who've set up a fund to help other divers.

The link to the website is www.cozumelrelief.com. You can donate via Paypal. If you're uncomfortable with this method, there's also a link to the Mexican Red Cross on the page. Also, you can earmark your money to go to a specific person or people if you wish...

P.S. I'm not affiliated with the fund in any way, other than that I've donated to it...

We had a group scheduled to be there from about the 8th to the 12th. We called yesterday and they told us they would be doing clean up and not opening again until the 15th as well.
