I have been diving for 4-5 years, gearing up progressively as I go, but I have neglected until now to buy any dive computer beyond an analog console. Now, I'm getting ready for a week-long trip to Bonaire via my LDS and decided a real dive computer was in order. I've looked at a number of different brands, and finally settled myself a month or two ago on the Oceanic Atom 2.0 (the ability to see your buddy/wife's air, plus the wear-as-a-watch size functionality, were big selling points). Unfortunately, my LDS had already been semi-permanently sold out of the Atom 2.0 to make way for, as they said, the forthcoming Atom 3.0.

I've been checking both this and the Oceanic brand boards on too frequent a basis, not to mention poking around the Oceanic official site, in the hopes of encountering new information on their next PDC release. I even took hope at the latest post to this thread, which makes mention of the new units being in stock at the end of August!

Now, I'm an irritatingly OCD person, and some part of me isn't going to get this matter out of my head until I finally settle on a computer, so I was wondering if anyone knew anything on the situation. I know that Oceanic Master (and Marketing Manager) Doug Krause has had occasion to post on these boards, and while he may not be able to release official information on the boards, I would certainly appreciate any updates on what's next from Oceanic.

In another note completely unrelated to seeking info on the Atom 3.0s, does anyone have any suggestions on other PDC models that would be comparable to the Atom series, in case I need to get one for my trip prior to any Oceanic releases? :eyebrow:

I'll be selling my Suunto D9 with transmitter soon. After my UEMIS SDA arrives.

I can't tell, is that a recommendation for an UEMIS or a Suunto D9? :cool2:

I am already diving with the (virtual) Atom 3.0 :D
I will ask Doug if we can post an image of it.

Wrist or Watch?
You can use the Dive Computer Research Tool to compare various dive computers.

I was thinking something I could use as a regular watch when not diving.

That's a good site for recommendations, thank! Interestingly enough, the divecomputertraining site recommended the OC1 or Atom 2.0. Also the Tusa ZEN Air... anyone have any opinions on it?

I didn't look to me that it was recommending one versus the other.
The number of stars is based on there being at least one review.
The Aeris Epic and Atom x are both made by Pelagic.
The Aeris Elite T3 and the and the Oceanic VT3 are the same computer with a slightly different way of displaying the data.
Both computers are made by Pelagic which is owned by the same company that owns Oceanic and Aeris,

Both the VT3 and the T3 have received excellent rating in the ScubaBoard forum but have no star rating on the Dive Computer Training site since nobody wrote a review of either dive computer.

I own the Elite T3 since I like the way it displays the data better than the way the VT3 displays the data. Having said that the T3 and VT3 are wrist style and not watch style dive computers.

You might want to consider the ease of reading the dive computer with a watch size dive computer. I wear an Citizen Aqualand NX as both a watch and spare dive computer when I dive in the Caribbean. The Elite T3 is much each to read at a glance than the Aqualand NX since the characters being displayed are larger.

Duplicate.

D9 served me well but DRIS has a great deal $1215 for UEMIS that I couldn't pass. Since I know I will be going the Trimix route a computer that will do that when I am there is definitely a plus.

I would say if budget allows you go for UEMIS.

The UEMIS may be a bit out of my price range (or else I'd be giving more thought to the OC1!), but I'll look at the T3. I considered the VT3 but thought it just looked like a larger, last-gen modeling of the Atom series, which might be good if one has difficulty reading the digits on the latter's smaller size.

What about the Aeris Epic that was mentioned? It looks like an Aeris-branded Atom PDC. Does anyone have experience with them?

I didn't look to me that it was recommending one versus the other...
Correct .... the tool is mainly a tool to help user figure out what is available out there and do direct comparisons.
The "ratings" come directly from users.

...... but have no star rating on the Dive Computer Training site since nobody wrote a review of either dive computer. .....
The tool is quite new (being out for a week or so ...) and it will take some time for users to find it out and post ratings.
