Any tips on knotting a 400’ line in 10’ increments?

This is the first time we have reels in our hands. It’s for a local project & locals will mentor us.

We need to prep the gear, but the knotting task looks pretty daunting. Surely you all have some tips to make it easier?

Is 9'8" per section (to allow for stretch when wet) a standard for all lines?

Probably not, but anything surveyed with knotted line isn't all that accurate, anyway. Tie a bit in true 10' intervals dry, then soak it, stretch it, and measure it with a tape.

If you want to do real accurate survey, get a survey tape. At a minimum, try to close your loops so you can adjust for error.
