Hey everyone,:)

Tomorrow I'm going to the US for the first time, i was wondering if there is any liveaboards diving holidays in California?
I completed my SSI advanced openwater on my last liveaboards holiday in Australia, it was extremely fun and relaxing. So i'm thinking of doing it again.
does anyone know where i can find a liveaboard to further my training in the USA? I tried to google but still couldn't find any useful info.

cheers.

There aren't many weeklong liveaboards off Southern California, mostly just day boats and long weekend boats. California Dive Boats : The Official Page lists most of them. Horizon sometimes runs weeklong specialty trips. Islander also.

Next closest options are the Sea of Cortez or Socorro Islands off Baja Mexico. One option is the Rocio Del Mar - they do both at different times. The Socorro Islands boats mostly leave from the Cabo San Lucas area. Some options: Solmar V, Baja Aggressor and Nautilus Explorer.

LAX is only about a 7 hour flight from Belize also. There's both an Aggressor and a Dancer Fleet boat there - both out of Belize City so it's convenient. Get to dive the famous Great Blue Hole. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Blue_Hole

Even you can go to 130 feet on your 10th dive! :-)

but seriously, realize that California diving is going to be cold water (55F), kelp and usually low viz, not at all like the Australian diving you're likely referring to. Getting in some more diving would be a good thing at this point in your experience, but probably not adding another layer of difficulty.

Rocio Del Mar to the Northern Sea of Cortez would be an excellent choice but one also has the following options from the US/N.America:
Nautilus Explorer/Solmar V - Great Whites at Guadalupe & Channel Islands - trip starts from San Diego
Dolphin Dream - Tiger Sharks at Tiger Beach Bahamas - trip starts at West Palm Beach Florida

All seriously exciting high adventure trips.
