My wife and I are heading back once again to spend some time with her family in Turkey Point this summer, and I was wondering if there is any good diving to be had in Lake Erie? I know the currents are a little stronger, but I here there are tonnes of wrecks to be found.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There is some amazing diving to be done in Erie (so I am told). Unfortunately for me, the weather/water can be very uncooperative and dives are commonly cancelled due to deteriorating conditions. For this reason, I have never successfully made it out but I have talked to many that have and seen some pictures and it sounds awesome. One day I will make it out. I am sure others will chime in with Charter info.

Yes, Lake Erie has a ton of wrecks. If you are looking for a good charter boat, give Eric Cooper a call. Eric's a PADI Instructor and technical diver and he uses a nicely equipped 25' Rigid Hull Inflatable for dive charters (Aquaholic Dive Charters). You can book through the Website at (Aquaholic - Take Dive Excursions with Eric Cooper). Have fun!

As mentioned, there are TONS of wrecks in Lake Erie.

However, its a pretty big piece of water, and its shores run through 3 or 4 different states, and one province. If you narrow down which part of the lake you want to visit, then you will easily find charter operators to take you out.

There is an active Dive Industry in most of the larger towns and cities on both sides of the border.

The more research I do, the more excited I get. The only concern I have now is whether visibility will make it worthwhile at that time of the year. (mid August).

And yes, I am referring to Turkey Point, ON.

Hi Bryce. I work for Scuba Plus dive center in Simcoe (15 minutes from TP) and we have a 28foot twin engine dive boat that we run charters on. Infact I just returned from a charter to the Atlantic and the 17 Fathom wrecks today. Just give the store a call, and speak to Cindy about what dates you would like to go out, and tell her you were talking to me online (I'm Jim, nice to meet you :D ).

If you have any specific questions about what wrecks are available at what depths, feel free to PM me or post on this thread. There are a LOT to choose from, but most are deeper than 80 feet, just FYI.

Cheers,
Jim
