I know I'm talking heresy here with you guys, but do any of the 'birds ever dive dry. I am getting shivers just thinking of getting into Lanier with my 7mm anytime this side of Memorial Day.
I am getting a BARE Nex-Gen drysuit soon for when it gets really cold, like about now. I know that doesn't make me looney, but cold water and me don't mix. I don't even take cold showers!
Any of you would like to relate your dry suit experience in Lanier and how you like diving dry in Lanier?

THANKS!

I guess by birds, you meen sheelah's. (This language barrier is hell! ;))

I'm not a sheelah (bird) myself, but know of plenty who dive dry. It's not just a guys thing, and you're certainly not going to look out of it if you get yourself a drysuit - if that's what your asking!

psssttt... i think he meant any of the Lake Lanier Looney Birds...

There are quite a few of us who dive dry.

Below the second thermocline, the temperature is usually around 44 degrees.

Once the temp gets around 55 I transition from wet to dry.

Thanks, I know I'm looking forward to staying warmer in a drysuit by the time Jan. '08 rolls around.
I know some of the deeper depths at Lanier would warrant a drysuit year round.

I now have a drysuit, and I don't think I will use my 7mm wetsuit ever again.

Your drysuit is that comfortable in cold and dark Lanier that you would shelve the 7mm? I think that's what I needed to hear. I have a one-piece 7mm I got from Divers Supply. It's OK, but it ain't a drysuit and this time of year and in the deeper depths of Lanier it's downright frosty. When I take my AOW after the 1st of next year I don't want to be shaking so bad I can't think straight. I think it's more comfortable and much safer to be warm and dry when my head plunges beneath the waves this time of year.

Thanks!

Let me know when you get ready to do your AOW and if you want to do a D/S course.

Get D/S certified and you can rent them.
