...the past couple of years (this time of year) thresher sharks about 250 yards off shore completely jumping out of the water. I witnessed this again two weeks ago. I saw two threshers aprrox. 5' body length (not including the long caudal tail) jump completely out of the water.
Two days later a brown pelican washed in, still alive, with its right wing bitten off at the "elbow" and a bite out of its right flank about 4" wide. I was thinking it maybe a thresher bite but have never heard them of attacking birds before. I thought they were strictly fish eaters? Maybe it was something else?
I am just excited to be diving now and to possibly witness some of this behavior underwater as opposed to just glimpses from the surface and some evidence that occasionally washes in.
