My name is Andy. I found out about this forum on an aviation board of all places (the Red Board, for those in the know).

As far as diving goes, I'm about as newbie as you can get. Got my PADI OW Cert almost two years ago. Only been underwater once since then and that was just tagging along with a friend of mine while he got his OW Cert.

Gear?? I got a set of flippers and booties. That's about it.

I'd probably try to dive a bit more often, but the lack of gear has me hesitating. My lack of gear problem is due to a lack of adequate storage space. Due to my job, I'm pretty much homeless and all my stuff is kept in a hangar with my airplane. Not necessarily the best place to keep expensive stuff.

Anyway, for the next couple of weeks, I'll be in the North Carolina area and wouldn't mind getting wet before I go back to work, assuming that someone wants to take the time to reteach a newb.

BTW... Wreck diving is something I'd definitely like to do, as well as photography.

Hi Andy the Sand Pirate. A very warm welcome to SB from very warm Thailand!

I saw your other post over there on the "Are you afraid to post" thread in which you mention that you are a contractor in Afghanistan. Obviously it's a big place, but I thought I'd let you know that I just certified a new OW diver who is also a contractor there (he got back to work only yesterday). He'll be returning here for more diving in the future, so if you'd like to hook up with another new diver and, who knows, come diving together, I can put you in touch. I have another very recent scuba student who is also up there in Afghanistan as a contractor, but he's a more experienced diver who did a Nitrox course with me last month and jumped on a liveaboard trip immediately afterwards. He'll also be back--he's talking about doing the Photo course next, and probably Rescue too. Anyway, I thought I'd let you know that you're not alone up there as a diver. There are others!

Cool!!

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll be hanging around the Arkansas area when I get back in July. Hopefully, I can get a dive or two in while I'm there.
