I had originally posted this on the Cozumel forum and got the suggestion to post it here as well.

"There is an active thread on playainfo where the poster had rented from Caribbean Rent A Car. They had turned the car in without a problem and were later charged for damage when they were back home.

Pretty standard that you have to leave a blank credit slip when you rent in Mexico. Make sure that you get that back when you turn the car in or refuse to sign one in the first place.

Given other reports of scams from Caribbean Rent A Car, I think we can add this one as a place to avoid. We used them last year without a problem and I posted a good review on Scubaboard. Seems that times have changed."

car rental scam & advice - Playa del Carmen, Mexico forum

...to them on Friday, May 8th. I had seen the thread on playa.info ( ALWAYS take your laptop on vacation!! ). I had taken umpteen dig. pics. of the vehicle before driving off, & umpteen more when I dropped it off. I talked to the rental rep. about the playa.info thread & he seemed sincere in his lack of knowledge of any such shenanigan going on ( which may be true - it could be just the preserve of the manager &/or owner ). Regardless, I told him in no uncertain terms that I would not tolerate any extra billings on my c.c. after they had signed off on the vehicle's return condition.

So far, my card is clear.

But I'll keep watching!!

Stay alert out there folks, there's lots of scummers just itchin' to relieve you of your money.

Best,
DSD

That's too bad! Personally we had a great experience with Carribean. They operate under about 10 differnet names we used cancunrentacar.com.
