Well, what do you do to celebrate 17 years of wedded bliss? In our case...you dive! While we were originally planning to do a cruise out of New Orleans where we could dive in several different locations, our plans fell through. Then we discovered we needed some air miles to attain our elite status for this year, so it made sense to just do another dive trip to Roatan ;)

So here we are back at Media Luna Resort and man are we having a great time :D The reception we received on arrival was incredible. We feel so welcome here and the staff is so friendly. We arrived on Continental Airlines at around noon and arrived at the resort in plenty of time to enjoy lunch. We were anxious to get the diving started!

We were quite happy to discover that this week we are diving with the Regional Director for PADI/Canada. While it is a vacation for him, he still loves to dive even on his off time :D What a great guy - he is so enthusiastic about diving and it is definitely contagious!

After our first day of playing in the waters of Roatan, we were greeted with a beautiful heart-shaped towel arrangement on our bed, followed by quite a surprise at dinner...a beautiful heart-shaped decoration surrounding a beautiful anniversary cake. Oh, and I almost forgot...also a bottle of champagne! It was phenomenal and we felt so pampered.

On Wednesday we had the opportunity to do something I have ALWAYS wanted to do - we joined Aqua Adventures on a day trip to Cayos Cochinos...OH MY GOODNESS - it was incredible! It was a good omen when we came upon a pod of Pilot Whales on the way over. Would you believe they were sleeping??? They were actually all gathered in a group on the surface of the ocean. Gary explained to us that they have to breathe, so when they want to sleep they have to do it at the surface. Of course we woke them up :blinking:

We dove a seamount called Roatan Bank and the fish life was incredible. I know someone on this forum was discussing Cayos Cochinos...by all means go! It was well worth the cost to go and check it out. I only wish we'd had time for more than 2 dives, but now I have a reason to return :D

The journey continues and we will continue to post during our stay. I have some great pics to go along with this, it's just difficult finding enough time to get everything uploaded. More later!

Hello, Cajuns,

If I'd known you were there, I'd have bubbled hello! We dove two sites in front of Media Luna (Half Moon Bay & Pirate Point). I lost a yellow 4-AA LED light (UK, I think) at 15 ft there. If you find it, let me know ;)

Media Luna looks absolutely gorgeous from the outside. If there are no wild geckos in the rooms, my spouse & child may prefer that!

Have a great trip, and congratulations on your anniversary!

Thanks hdtran :D I have been following your posts and thinking about you down there at CocoView! We ran into Mark Washington and his big yellow boat at Hole in the Wall today. He's still such a great guy - tell him we said hello again!

Unfortunately, right after our visit at Hole in the Wall, hubby had a nasty accident and cut a huge gash on his shin....no fun :depressed: But the staff at Media Luna and Aqua Adventures took great care of him. They called in to the dive shop and had management waiting for us at the dock. They administered first aid right away and determined he needed more extensive treatment. I have to give a big thumbs up to them for getting us to Anthony's Key medical clinic right away. The doctor there was really good to work with and got hubby stitched right up. The best news is that if everything goes well he may be able to dive again in 2 to 3 days...we'll see :dontknow:

All I can say is I can't think of a better place to kill a few days of non-diving...it's great here :blinking:

Cajun,

Please give hubby our best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Very sorry to hear about your husband's injury. But happy anniversary none-the-less. How many years together? My wife and I booked the MEDIA LUNA for a week this coming December. Can you give us any pointers? I'm a diver - my wife is not. Given your husband's injury, would you recommend I bring my 3/2 full wetsuite? or a 3/2 shorty? Does the staff speak English? Thank you - and I hope you both manage to salvage a nice holiday despite the stiches. Andy & Sheri

Hello Cajun, hope you have a great anniversary, and many more to come. Hope the hubby feels better so you can get in more diving. I can"t think of a better place to relax and recuperate than Media Luna. Are Ricardo and Claire still there? They really made the diving fun.

Thanks so much...hubby is doing just fine. He was going to push the diving just so I wouldn't miss out, but he said if I would go ahead and buddy up with the divemaster he would sit out. So that's what we have been doing. But he's still having a great time coming on the boat with us and taking pictures. It's the first time I've ever seen pictures of ME getting ready to dive :D

Hubby's injury really has nothing to do with what wetsuit you might wear. We had finished diving when he slipped and fell and hit his shin against something, so it really was not a diving injury at all. In December I would think you'd be most comfortable in a full wetsuit, but that is highly subjective and individuals vary greatly in their exposure protection.

The staff definitely speaks English...you will have no problems communicating. Some are a little slower than others, though :D Your wife will love the place. There is a spa on premise and beautiful swimming pools and a lovely beach. Please tell her there are plenty of activities she can sign up for if she doesn't want to stay around the resort. She can stay as busy as she likes while you stay VERY busy enjoying Roatan's amazing reefs.

Hello jjach! Nice to hear from you again :D

Unfortunately, Ricardo and Claire have moved on to Mexico. They contacted us on Facebook and let us know they were leaving. Aqua Adventures has hired Margarita who used to be an instructor with Coconut Tree Divers in West End. She is absolutely a HOOT and I have been having SO MUCH fun diving with her. She is the type of person who keeps you laughing and motivated all the time, so you would definitely have fun with her too. We have also been diving with Raphael, but not as much. He is also lots of fun. No matter who you dive with, the emphasis is on quality and we have been very pleased :D

Thanks so much for all the info. Greatly appreciated. I went skiing at Whistler last fall. We met a couple on a snow-cat ride. The chap had his foot all bandaged up. Turns out he stepped on a broken bottle on the second day of his ski vacation. I guess these things happen. Hope hubby enjoys a full and rapid recovery. Kind regards.
