K, I am just about to finish this course, and I would have to say the training material is quite possibly the worst structured course material that I have ever laid my eyes on, even more so then my engineering courses. Seriously it is almost as if they just took some guys thesis and just decided to use that as a an educational tool, and never even thought of converting or laying it out, so that a person would understand or have any idea what is going on.

Luckily I am a technical type person and have read lots of these documents, so I was able to understand and grasp the information. Though anyone who might even be remotely interested in taking this course, who is not from a tech background, if you ask me is going to have a very hard time following and learning from the book.

Curious to know if anyone else felt this about there training manual.

Thanks

Steve

I have the older manual "The Applications of Enriched Air Mixtures" ANDI complete SafeAir User by Ed Betts. I don't know how much it differ from the new book but I found the older one was easy to follow and the math was pretty basic. I took the Adv Nitrox through TDI and their manual definitely suck. I found the ANDI manual easy to follow and I go back to it on occasion to refresh my memory on some of the formulas.

Maybe it is just me then, but I find it very poorly done, yeah the math is super easy and everything, I just feel they put out a sub-par manual, and was kind of shocked to tell you the truth. I understand it is technical diving, or a beginning class or whatever you want to call it. Just seems to me that they would have put alot more work into making it user friendly for the not so tech oriented people, just my two cents worth though.

"Nitrogen will 'ert you!"

I can teach for several agencies, and also own manuals for the ones I do not teach, and I can tell you for a fact the CSU is by far the most complete one out there.. If you think the ANDI manual is bad, you'll really going to hate the others..

The LSU manual (safeair sport diver) isn't as great, its a stripped CSU so it doesn't flow as well but is still more complete than other manuals. It is meant as an add on to the open water diver class so that new divers can do their ow training on nitrox.

Personally I like the layout, its easy to teach from, starts with physiology then into the "nitrox" math and finally about oxygen handling..
(I also know of ITs and Instructors from other agencies that use the CSU diver manual as their instructor manual for their non andi programs)

Hello,

I would agree with padiscubapro that in my opinion it is one of the best manuals written for Nitrox diving within agencies.

However, I would agree that that some of the material/paragraphs need to be updated as well. Not that I would say that it is confusing, however some of the math equations and layout and such could use a little work.

All aside, I think it is a must for any diver looking beyond just the basics.

Regards,

tp

I´ve seen the coursematerial for PADI, IANTD and ANDI.
The ANDI CSU material is what I use as a reference when I need to look something up.

I agree with others, you´d really hate the manuals from other agencies (though they may have prettier pictures)...

The last production run (april 2006), has had alot of improvements.. Plus full color..

I teach technical programs for 2 different agencies and I use ANDI manuals as a guide when teaching other programs. They make sense to me and I like the layout. Maybe it is what you are used to.
