I have always had a soft spot for these Porcelain Crabs.

Once they get over their general shyness and get their filter nets out and start waving them in the current, they are quite spectacular.

This one is from a shore dive at Kata Beach in Phuket, Thailand.

Nikon D2X, 60mm lens, F16 or F22, 1/100, dual Inon 220 strobes

Enjoy,
M

Stunning!
Thanks,
Rick

Pretty! I've never seen one. Thanks for the pictures.

We share the same spot :) Those "antennas" these guys wave in the current give one very nice compositions and they tend to stand on nice background aswell. Haven't seen too many of those but they sure are sight for a sore eye. Kata beach you say? Man I've been swimming and snorkeling around there for a number of times. If you are still at the region make sure you book a liveaboard trip to Similans! It's very late in the season but now you have the best chance to see those big fellas (mantas and whale sharks). That is if the boat goes up to Richeliou and koh tachai & koh bon :)

Wow Marriard!...your picture...how graceful the crab looks!

Jamdiver:
yet another critter that's not on this side of the world..
Sure they are... they're everywhere in the tropics. Now all you gotta do is get out there and find some :)
(unless, of course, it's only the Pacific version you're talking about)
