The article says that they can ID the ship from the anchor, but I am not sure how they can be so certain? See the link below:

The anchor has been found from a 1641 British shipwreck. Where's the 100,000 pounds of gold?

I would hold off on making any definite identification until they can pull a cannon, bell, or other artifacts that conclusively show that this wreck is actually the Merchant Royal instead of a lone anchor or another wreck of the same vintage.
