Anyone know what kind of water and air temperatures I can expect in April for a Sorong to Ambon liveaboard ?

I've heard that temps in Indonesia can vary a lot depending on the area you are in. Someone said the temps around Bali and Komodo are much colder than in Ambon-Sorong.

Air temperatures would also be nice to know. If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Ron, April water temps in Ambon were around 82F last year. There were a few minor thermoclines dipping down to the high 70's past 100ft, but nothing too bad, not like the south end of Komodo where I hit some thermoclines that went down to the low 60's. Never been to Sorong, but there's much deeper water around Ambon, so I doubt Sorong water temps are any lower than the 80's...

last feburary on our liveaboard trip, sorong-sorong, air temps were warm(hot in the city of sorong) and humid. highs 86-89F, evening lows mid 70's. water temps 81-83F. no thermoclines that i can recall. most of our group wore skins up to 3mm wetsuits,,,,,,,,

Thanks, those temps sound nice.

Silent running, do you go on any of the various local NYC group trips ? I'm doing this Indo trip with the Pan Aqua dive shop and I've been to a few of the Oceanbluedivers social meets.

No, I dive with a rebreather and I plan trips with small groups of RB divers as we have different requirements. We try to stay away from large groups of regular bubble blowing scuba divers to make sure we get the best chance to see the big stuff. I enjoy talking with any divers about diving, but most non-rebreather divers think rebreather divers are nuts and don't relate to us well, which gets a little tiresome.

Ambon was great and I'm sure you'll have a great trip. PM me if you want to chat on the phone about Indo diving, going to Bali and points beyond in May for my 4th trip to Indo.
