What would it take to make a trip from Lake Erie to the Keys?

I know it sounds impractical, but Its a SLOW day at work today and just got to thinking.

What do you all think?

I'm guessing that's 2500 plus miles of travel.

You need enough time and money to make that happen.

There are a couple of places (New York to Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, Chesapeake Bay, Albermarle Sound) where good luck with weather would be a plus.

The short answer is quit your job and write a check. :)

I'd have to look it up ... but i believe there is a way to get from the great lakes to the OhioRiver .... from there to the Mississippi... spend some time in New Orleans ... then either across the gulf or around the FL WCoast to the Keys ...

Be sure to make it out to Dry Tortugas .... really a great place.

Well yeah I know it would take a long time and you would have to have a crew.

But if time wasn't a problem, and you had a crew??

Power or sail?
How big?

How much money do you have to spend on crew?:D

Good question... I don't have either.

I guess it doesn't matter. I was just more less wondering what you all thought and could come up with. I thought this might be a good subject for us all to bs about

A friend of mine did a delivery last summer from Annapolis to Detroit. As I recall it was about a two week trip.
It was a 35' trimaran with a moderate size outboard motor.

He said they motored quite a bit but after all, it was a delivery.

If I had time and money to steam or sail anywhere I wanted, I could certainly make that run.

You'd more likely find me running from Maine, around Florida, and up the Mississippi, although no place would be out of the question.

As for BS-ing about this ...

...if it were ME... I'd skip buying the big boat and take that money to buy a place in FL ... on the ICW. Get your butt out of Cleveland (or wherever you are on Erie) ! It's cold there !

:)

but that's just me
