I am planning on touring Portugal in May of next year. I'll have one free day in Algarve. I was wondering what the diving is like and looking for dive operator recommendations. Since I only have one day it would be nice if I could get 3 to 4 dives in.

Hi! I was in Lagos, Algarve, Portugal in March/April 2006 and the diving was good - not super, but good. Some days there were 0 viz, some days there were like 10-15 meters or more. I would guess it would be much better in May when you are going. On a good day Lagos is comparable to fx the Red Sea on a bad day ;-) Lots of reef, octopus, fish and some cute female divemasters :-) I recommend http://pt.dive-time.net/

I did one dive in Portimao with diverscove.de. I didn't really enjoy that dive, not too much life and not too much vis. Only 6 meters deep, altough that is not a problem if vis and seelife are good. Diverscove is based quite far from the harbour where their boat lies and I think that is a con as well. Apart from that it seemed like a good operation, good rental stuff, nice people who know what they are doing.
