I am new to these forums and a new diver looking to get my first set of regs, I like the AL mainly because I have used them before and was happy with them, and my LDS uses and will service them.

I like the kronos with the side exhaust but I find the 1st stage highly annoying with the setup of the ports. For this reason I am hoping to used this setup:

Legend LX 1st stage, Kronos 2nd stage and ABS octopus.

My question is will these be compatible, as I said I am new to all of this and not sure, also I noticed leisurepro and simplyscuba both don't offer any of the AL regs as 2nd stage 1st independently, is this just because they dont stock them that way or is this due to AL?

Thanks guys

I believe Aqualung doesn't sell seconds or firsts by themselves. Apeks and ScubaPro sell a few of there popular seconds by themselves though. I'm not sure about the Krono's but I use the ABS as an octo on my Legend and it works just fine.

Thanks Frank, sounds like that setup will be the go for me, I would much rather have some decent hose management than a side venting 2nd stage!

Can you tell me what the deal is with ACD, LX and supreme vs non supreme?

You can use pretty much use any first stage with any second stage as long as the IP (intermedient pressure) of the first stage is close to the same. With the exception just a very few regs, the IP of modern regs is in a range around 135-145 psi. All AL diaphram regs are easily adjustable externally and all other regs can be adjusted in some manner. The second stage needs enough air flow at a given pressure to work properly, where is comes from does not matter, be it an AL first stage, a Scubapro first stage or a shop air compressor for that matter. If you swap seconds between first stages and the IP is a little different but still in the same range (likely) between the stages it my require some minor adjustments in the second stage but otherwise there is no reason not to......which is a good reason to insist your reg tech set the IP of all of your first stages to the same pressure during service- as long as it falls in the accepted range for that reg of course.

If you can buy a second seperately is another question. Even if AL does not allow it, I suspect a shop could get one if they wanted to,claiming they needed one for an "out of warranty repair ". Then there always is Ebay but I would highly suggest you have anything purchased there checked carefully, lots of good stuff on Ebay but plenty of junk as well.

I don't know if you can find the components separately but if you get the Kronos, you will definitely like it. I've had mine for 2 years and I love it. The only problem I have is the hose will sometimes try to push the reg out of your mouth but if you use the miflex hose I think that would solve it.

snip......which is a good reason to insist your reg tech set the IP of all of your first stages to the same pressure during service....

Herman's advice is worth repeating (it usually is) and a reason everyone should have an IP gauge. Intermediate Pressure Gauge Plugs Into The BCD Quick Disconnect Hose from LeisurePro.com

I also think trying different length hoses and possibly switching to a Miflex hose as Tom suggests is worth a try before you invest in another regulator.

Can you tell me what the deal is with ACD, LX and supreme vs non supreme?

The ACD is The Auto Closure Device on the first stage of the Legend. Its there to prevent water from entering the first stage. All new Legend first stages have the ACD feature. The LX adds the Inhalation adjustment feature which regulates air delivery. The Supreme adds a silver accent ring and lip shield. The normal "non supreme" will have a gold ring and no lip shield. Aqualung claims the Supreme to be there cold water verison of the Legend, but there is no real internal difference. I would trust a normal Legend in cold water any day.
