Should I place my regulator/dive computer/digital camera in my carry on bag? I am leaving for Cozumel Mexico in a week and it sure wouldnt be good if the airlines lost my luggage.

Also, will flying damage my dive computer?

Most people here carry on their regulator, dive computer, and camera gear. It's the most likely to be stolen if placed in checked luggage.

Flying won't hurt your dive computer. Neither will the X-ray machine at the airport. However, that "hand scanner" will often damage electronic equipment. We've had that happen before...

Also using luggage w/o dive logos or dive flags on it will help because the logos and flags pretty much say "steal me" to theives.

hope this helps.

Agree with Mike in that regs, computer (take out batteries if you can) and camera gear go on board.....and I dive a bp and wing.....and that goes on too in a small back pack.

Def DO NOT have any luggage with dive logos or dive flags on it. That is just asking for someone to steal it. Just because youre going to a dive area does not mean all luggage has dive gear in it....but those with flags or company logos most likely will so they are targetted.

Have fun and be sure to do a detailed trip report.

ALWAYS in your carry on! If it is in checked and they loose it, your out at least your camera, as the airlines don't cover it. Also you know you will treat your carry on with kindness so your gear will not be abused - I can't say the same thing for checked bags!!!! So why take a chance - carry it on !

Rich, why do you take the battery out? To prevent them from being activated in flight? I've generally been in the school that seals shouldn't be operated unless they have to be to prevent accidentally damaging them.

Been flying with dive gear for over 30 years ... do take your mask, regulator and gagues as a carry on bag .... Have had the airlines misplace my dive gear for 2 days when I changed planes in Florida back in 1989 ... lucky I had the "important" stuff with me and I could rent the rest .... By the way ... the airlines will not reinburst you for the rental gear ... in fact if they lose your stuff all they want to pay you is $250 max.

Hello
I agree with all the above but still confused on taking out the batt.
i always take my regs. and i have a u/w vidieo camera with me always
i tell the screeners what the camera is ahead of time because they flag it every time anyway
HAVE A GREAT HONEYMOON

..........I don't have 30 years of diving, yet, but my traveling experiance is the same.

Carry the things that will make your trip still happen if your checked bags are lost.

Good Luck.
