Just curious, how does a diver do air rings ?

Neither do I but if you ask a smoker they can show you, it will be a bugger to try and describe it but here goes, make a circle with your mouth and click your jaw

Perse your lips around your tounge; pressurize your mouth; use your tounge as a valve! capire?
(quickly pull your tounge straight back) All with head facing up. This is how I do it, and I get a good one every once in a while too!

You can also look toward the surface and say the word PUT, with emphasis on the letter P.

Yup, what Max said.

I purse my lips, pressure up the mouth and upper airway and forcefully say "POOH". Water stability (low current, etc...) seems to be the biggest mitigating factor.

I've been told it is almost like spitting a loogie! Maybe that is why my rings don't look good though.

Puckering your lips like you're going to give a kiss is a key

So is building up enough pressure inside your mouth before you pop it out.
