Hello all!

Just got back from my weekend checkout dives! We were diving at 4600 feet in Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. The vis was about 12 feet. I took a dry suit orientation class this week and it worked like a charm! (down at 35 feet the temp. was 41 F but I was plenty warm!) Although I had to take 2 cracks at my cesa I got it fine the second time. All the other skills went smoothly!

We managed to get in 6 dives (3 each day) so the last 2 were strictly fun dives! It was great because we were able to dive to the top of a submerged dam and block house that was flooded in 1912. It was very cool since there were a number of plaques that had been put on the side of the dam. One of them was commemorating the fact that one of the Cousteau's got their OW cert in the lake! (Phillipe I believe but the first name escapes me at the moment!)

What a great time! I now have 7 dives at altitude in low vis, cold water and with a dry-suit! It will be great to get into water that you can see in but nonetheless, I can't wait until next weekend when I get to dive in the mountains again!

Just thought I'd share!

Thanks to all the board members here....I have learned a ton at this forum and look forward to learning a ton more!

Greg congrats!!! Sounds like you had as much fun as I did and yes, it feels great! Where are you diving next weekend? Same place? I used to live in Calgary and loved to go up to Banff.

That's awesome. I've been to Banff tons of times to ski and didn't even know about the diving there.

Congrats! Wait untill you get someplace wet, warm and blue, it gets even better...
