Howdy,

I posted this in the Aeris section too.
Looking to see if anyone else is having this problem.

I bought the Elite T-3 for me and my wife.

We took them on about 6 dives and could not get the buddy check to give a correct pressure reading at depth.

We would be right next to each other and try to check the others pressure and the computer would display some crazy number like 3310 PSI when we only had about
1500 PSI left in out tanks.

This is dangerous - it would be better that it gave no reading then a random incorrect number.

I called Aeris and returned to computers for evalutation. Aeris immediately shipped me two brand new computers so I assumed that the first two were broken or out of calibration or something else.

I have taken the two NEW computer diving on about 6 dives again and they still give the same incorrect, random readings on the buddy check. ??????????

I can't have gotten two broken computers again, there must be something else wrong.

Have these things not been tested?

How can I be sure that the pressure reading for MY OWN tank is correct if the buddy check reading is so far off?

Anyone else have problems with this?

Wow,

No Responses here or in the Aeris section.

Is no one using the Aeris Elite T-3 computer?

Or are you using them and they work just fine?

I just returned an Elite T3 because on its first dive ever used it stopped giving me cylinder pressure midway through my dive...it just read and flashed "000". Not a real confidence booster brandwise speaking!

If I remember correctly I read on scubadiving.com that aeris had this problem. It said when you put your hands down low by your legs you lose the presure gauge, very scary, they also said as soon as you move your hands up the gauge comes back, but I would not want to take a chance.

Does anyone know if Oceanic has the same problem? They look so similar.

Do they work and read correctly on the surface? For both "buddies"...if not you may a transmitter signal problem.

I have the Oceanic version no problems, but I'm not using two side by side, in otherwords my buddy doesn't have a VT-3... so you could possbly have an interference problem. I've seen it with other brands..never with Oceanic/Aeris though.
And I've never lost signal with my Oceanic Vt-3, Even given it to a student (mines mounted with compass on a retractor) to do a compass swim and swimming three or four feet above/behind them it still reads pressure when I can see it.
Maybe try not getting "right next to each other" maybe five feet or so???

I'll ask our Oceanic Rep for a explanation.

Hey plwtwo,

Tried it on the surface many times and mostly it doesn't find the buddy at all, called Aeris about it and they said thats OK that underwater it would work like a charm.
Sometimes on the surface it would give a reading but who knows if the reading was correct or not.

Also underwater I tried it close together and farther apart many times - the computer just gives some crazy number for my buddy not even close to accurate.

I am assuming that it is reading MY tank correctly.

My wife and I experienced the exact same problem with our new T3s as well. On the surface they work perfectly, before and after the dive. but at about 10 feet they went haywire and reported crazy pressures nowhere near the actual reading for the buddy check. the primary transmitter seemed to work accuratly the whole dive though. Aeris replaced both of our comps as well but i have not had a chance to use them yet. I now assuming after reading this post that it will be no different than before.

I had posted about this about 3 weeks ago and found someone else with the same problem. I think that Aeris seems to have a software issue that needs to have the bugs worked out.

One thing i wanted to try is to set the computer to self for transmitters 2-3 and see if it reports correct pressure when accessing the gas switching menu. I have heard of people using T3s for multiple deco bottles without issues so i think that maybe in the "buddy" part of the program.

What do you think about that??

I'm telling you, there's a better way.
Get a cheap brass and glass SPG, and get better buddy skills. Know your air consumption to the point that your SPG is your backup--you should be able to know within a very small margin how much gas you have left...your SPG should only confirm whether or not you're right.
