Is this a joke? Are you serious?

So when does it "decide?"

No, it is not a joke. What if it had an off button and you bumped it while you were diving? Bye-bye nitrogen load, RNT, bottom time, accurate depth reading (if at altitude), countdown to fly, etc.
Too big of a saftey risk. It will turn off eventually, I think mine does alittle after 24 hours from the last dive.

That is so stupid. $700 and they can't even have a manual way of turning it off??

So now, anytime that I want to play around with it in simulator mode or learn some features then I have to have it on for another 24 hours.

If you don't get it wet...it'll shut down in about an hour...

My AI goes off after 2 hours when I have as you call it "played around" with it. It is 24 hours (time to fly) when a dive has been made. I assume your issue is worrying about the battery life.........don't. I "played around" a lot the first year and made over 100 dives, the battery was still at max indication. I replaced the battery after a year just as a precaution.

I don't see how this is stupid but rather a nice safety feature. As said before don't worry about it. I think the battery is around $10..play all you want and have fun doing it.

I haven't heard of dive computers coming with a power off feature.

I've logged nearly 100 dives on my Aeris Atmos 2, and the battery level graph still displays a full battery charge. Plus, the batteries are easily replaced and inexpensive.

It doesn't use much power in the surface mode. It just reads the depth sensor every second or two to see if you have submerged. It does the same thing after a dive, checking to see if you've started a 2nd dive.

During the 24 hour time-to-fly period it isn't doing much, and doesn't use much more power than a wristwatch.

Come to think of it, where's the power off button on my wristwatch????
