Aeris: Atmos AI or Atmos Elite?

I am down to it and liking Aeris so far for being simple, less conservative, and small . I am going to ScubaToys on Saturday to make my purchase. As I understand, the only difference in the two is the hoseless feature. I'm still kicking around the hoseless thing. It seems nice, but its just one more thing that can fail down there. Once you add the compass and quick disconnect to the AI, it seems like about a $100 difference between the two. Which ever one I do, I am mostly likely going to be clipping to the same place on my BC with a retractor or something similar.

About me, I am a complete newb diver. Just got OW certified and have 4 dives under my belt. I am going to be diving in Texas when its warm and Cozumel a couple times a year. No plans for any craziness at this point. Just nice, calm, fun, warm dives.

What do y'all think on these two? Thanks in advance!

I purchased the AI without the quick disconnect this summer and now have nine dives on it. Excellent piece of equipment. When I bought mine I couldn't see the need to pay extra for the wireless option and have one more thing to worry about. Also read many stories on wireless units that lose sync with the transmitter while diving. I also have not seen any real need for the quick disconnect.

My only complaint for the computer is that the temperature seems to report around 5 degrees warm which is likely within a +/- tolerence.

I have the Atmos ai with compass and QD and love it. It is so small and easy to pack away. The QD makes it super easy to do log book entries without having hoses dangling everywhere. I have never used a hoseless so can't comment on them, but I don't like the idea of losing signal and not knowing tank pressure.

I dive with the AI and absolutely love it! I sprung for the QD and compass, and don't regret doing so for a second. The computer lays beautifully in your hand to navigate and it's easy to level the compass. I also really like that it's compact and with the QD I don't have to worry about it being banged around on the boat.

Count me as well for the Atmos AI w/ compass and QD. It's great. I love diving with it and hopefully someday soon will add an Atmos 2 as a back-up.

One thing I DO NOT like about Atmos is their pi$$ poor dive download software. They need to get someone with a clue to write a new program cause their current one sucks.

Well it seems like you've made up your mind, but I'll toss in that I like the Atmos Elite. I ust upgraded fromthe Atmos 2 and the only thing I don't like about either is the 7-second backlight. I wish you could have it on longer for night dives, cause pushing the button repeatedly gets old. Just a minor gripe since you can easily read it by shining your dive light on it.

As far as compass, I got a Suunto on a retractor--no reason the compass and computer has to be hooked together, is there? I looked at all the Aeris computers and decided they were all good for what I needed...my final deciding factor was price. I got a great deal on the Atmos 2, then a great deal on the elite.

My only real suggestion would be to see if your LDS rents them; so you can try it out on a dive. Enjoy your Aeris computer.
