Hi all,

In lieu of an Octo, I have an Aeris Airlink as my inflator. While testing out the gear (it's new) this weekend, I noticed that the Airlink is leaking just a bit of air and free flows at the slightest nudge. I can send it back to Leisure Pro and have them fix it, but I'm leaving for Cayman in a handfull of days and will not get it back in time. Taking it apart a bit, there is a lever held in place with a shaft and a nylon insert nut (see picture).

Can I tighten this nut up a flat or two to increase the pressure on the lever? Is there something else I can do myself or do I need to take this to a shop? I've got the tools and general skill, I just don't want to destroy anything accidentally. :D

Many thanks!
David

I would not suggest working on it yourself. Take it to your LDS and see if they will help you. It will probably cost you a pretty penny, but that is the risk you take when purchasing from Leisure Pro.

It's not really a risk. Leisure Pro will take it back and fix it for free (it's brand new) I just didn't want to spend the time to do it. I did go to a couple of LDS's (yesterday) and asked about it but both of them wanted more to look / fix it than it cost to buy from Leisure Pro...which is the risk of going through an LDS I guess. :)

David,

First off, (I hope) you are describing a slight free flow and not a leak. If this is the case it is something you can probably live with until you can have it tuned.

However, if you are comfortable with taking a shot at a cure, read on, you can always do the reverse of these instructions to bring it back to the state it is in now.

Chances are your Aeris is simply not tuned to the intermediate pressure of your first stage. If you bought it mail order separate of the first stage this is a good possibility.

I am going off my experience with an Air II so keep that in mind. It appears your regulator has a classic downstream valve. Take the q.d. hose off and look into the regulator air attach fitting (flash light required) and see if there is a hex (allen) or screw driver slot in there. If there is, that is the adjustable orifice.

Whilst holding down the purge lever give the orifice a very slight turn (if it were hands on a clock, go from the 12 to the 1) clockwise and hook the qd up again and pressurize. Still leaks? give it another slight turn. If after you have gone more than 1/2 full turn I would not go any further unless you are willing to take the unit apart and inspect and possibly change the soft seat.

I am assuming your primary second stage does not leak, as this would indicate your intermediate pressure may be the problem and is an issue with the first stage.

Do not mess with the nut until you have a better understanding of regulator service. Read Vance Harlow's regulator repair book and/or the Peterbuilt book and get a few old regulators to practice on.

Hope this helps, I'm interested in the results...let us know how it turns out.

Couv, you ARE THE MAN!!! One '12 to 1' turn and that did the trick perfectly. No leaking, not touchy, breathes great and purges perfectly.

Many thanks! :beerchug:
