:mooner: i have recently bought a Poseidon Atmosphere FFM, used it for about 20+ dives on twin 12's. i am thinking of getting a switching block for doco gases/side mounts and would like some advice:confused:

I'm not familiar with that FFM but I did look at and think about, some switchblocks when I was playing with FFM's. For whatever you think it's worth, my advice is don't.

There are several reasons for that position. Switching to the wrong gas has to be about the easiest and quickest way for a technical diver to get themself killed. Our equipment and procedures really need to be pretty fool proof in that regard and I don't think that switchblocks fit that description. The more gasses you add the more of a mess it gets to be. I don't know what kind of dives you're doing but consider a switchblock setup with a stage or two and two or three decompression gasses. What about gas sharing and quick reaction to problems like leaks? Can you quickly find and isolate the problem? What about the potential need to buddy breath a decompression bottle?

I know there are guys doing it but it doesn't look like a good idea to me.

for sooth, duth sound like's me have'eth some thinking to do. in other words, i think i need to re-think my tech diving[/I].
i was even thinking of quick release couplingson stages to the block but this sounds like im going down a long dark road with no exit (i,e a big dead end!):shakehead
