I am wrapping up my divemaster cert and will be weekend DMing for boats that cater primarily to military personnel. I don't want to pocket any tips from these young heros, but I don't want to be rude and refuse tips. I figure I'll donate all tips to ocean conservation. I'd like to know if anyone can offer insight into the folowing subjects regarding charities.

- Percentage of donations going to overhead and percentage going into the cause.
- Region of world that organization focuses. I am a patriotic American, but I have lived abroad for much of my life so a global perspective is important to me, but a bias for North America is probably in line with my bias for the same. I guess this point is just for my information.
- Will not support extremist activity so Greenpeace and I am sure some others are out.

I have a certain loyalty to SurfRider Foundation, since I grew up surfing in SoCal, but I am more of a diver than a surfer these days, don' know if SurfRider places an emphasis on conservation/sealife management. I just associate SurfRider with beach cleanups. I am sure this and many of my ideas are based on my ignorance to the subject. Can someone provide me some education?
