Has anyone here been to Bonaire?

I have some punters who will be going there after the Galapagos in August and need some accommodation.

Prerequisites are:
1. Handicapped frinedly - she is wheelchair bound
2. On the beach
3. 4 or 5 star accommodation
4. On site dive operation for him
5. On site bar for her!!! :)
6. Not self catering!

Any suggestions, folks?

Thanks in advance

I had a blast last September with the gang that went there... and others will soon pipe in as to their various visits.

As for accommodating your friend: I know that the Flamingo Beach Resourt has facilities that have been adapted to meet the needs of of Handicapped Scuba Association divers so I'm sure it would be ideal for you

...should meet all your requirements. You'll love it.

I second the Plaza, it's really the only one that matches your criteria. Make sure to ask for a ground floor room as there are no elevators to the second floor. Also see if you can get a room near to the dive operation as it will be easier to roll a chair that way around to the restaurant for breakfast and the lobby and you will not have to go over any of the bridges that connect various parts of the property. Go to their website and check out the map. If you have any questions send me a PM, my wife and I have stayed there for a week at a time for the last three years.

The Plaza has all the facilities you mentioned and then some, and the shore diving off 18th Palm is not to shabby--also I really liked the dive operations on site.Richards restaurant is right down the street,it's open air,and the food is good.Have a great time!!!

Forgive me if I misunderstand your post but it looks to me like you are looking for a little more upscale place to stay. Places like that are somewhat scarce on Bonaire, the Plaza being closest to what you are looking for. Bonaire is more of a eat/sleep/dive/leave me alone kind of place...which is what I like. If you are looking to be a pampered guest, I am not sure you will find a place that will suit you. You may have better luck finding what you are looking for on Aruba or Curacao. They are close by and the diving should be about the same.

Thanks for that.

Thing is they are flying on KLM from Ecuador back to the UK via Bonaire, and they are allowed a free stop-off there. She is also wheel chair bound, and logistically it is much easier for them to stay put. All they want is wa eek of RnR on the beach - nice hotel, good food, where he can do a bit of diving and she can relax and watch the world go by.

If they can get that at the Plaza or Fandango Beach Resort, and don't need to go across to Aruba or Curacao, then so much the better.

Anyway, gotta see if they like the look of either place first!

Thanks again!

Regards

Harbour Village is the nicest accomodations on Bonaire. Very upscale.
