I am in the planning stages and looking at visiting Hurghada (well flying into that airport) and spending 5 days diving. Never been before and wanted to know what are the best places to choose, so is there any differecne between El Gouna, Hurgahada, Soma Bay etc.... I don't mind where I stay and happy to do boat dives if thats the best. I would prefer a smaller well equipped centre diving on a reef with as few people as possible..but need a decent hotel for the wife.

Any ideas, suggestions, advice welcomed

Thanks
Ben

Hi,

Generally speaking best spots are off shore with a few exceptions. The choice is vast !

El Gouna, only boat diving, can recommend Sheraton Miramar. Dive Sha'ab El Erg Dolphin House and Paradise Gardens

Makadi Bay, good house reef in the bay at Fort Arabesque.

Soma Bay, great sites nearby, the Sheraton has been recommended by a fellow diver.

Safaga, great sandy beach at the Shams Prestige. Can recommend Panorama reef .

2 hrs further south,
El Quseir, diving with Pharaoh Dive Club and staying at the Flamenco Beach & Resort, shore diving ( I am heading out there tomorrow for a week diving ) or next door at the Mövenpick which has a great house reef I am told.

There are few tourists now and even less divers !
