I'm a new OW diver (10 dives) and am interested in trying some photography. I have an A70 and am wondering if it makes sense to spend money on a case for it or upgrade the camera and case. It looks like a case for the A70 will cost me $185 -$200 CDN with tax & shipping. Any advice is appreciated.

The A70 is a fine camera and perfectly capable of taking nice shots.
The only thing I can see is if you are thinking of upgrading the camera anyway - the newer A models have better sensors, so it's probably worth it at some stage - then I'd just do the upgrade and get the case for the new camera.
But if you are happy with your A70 - I still have and use an A75 - then get the case and jump in...you can always use it as your backup later if you decide to buy something new
