Hi everyone,

Been a long time.

One thing I learned from our last time, is that my wife and I need better lights for night diving. Can anyone recommend some primary lights, for "casual" use - that are bright and won't cost an arm and a leg?

Any other advice for a week of diving on the Nekton Rorqual - Medio Reef?

Thanks,

PC

...not sure your definition of 'an arm and a leg' but if you can afford something in the $ 225 - $ 275 range I'd recommend the mbsub X1-FF/VB series of lights (golemgear.com)

You say 'better.' What did you use before? That way folks here have some idea of 'better than what?' I use a Princton Tec Mini-wave, which is similar to the Shockwave model but is smaller & thus holds fewer batteries. I use the LED model, so it should run longer and cooler (I use it topside for exploring the shore at night sometimes, too). It's a 'pistol grip' type light. Do you know whether you like that design, vs. others?

Richard.

We used Princeton Tec Tec 40 Secondary Dive Light as primary lights.
Like these: PRINCETON TEC 40 Underwater Light Dive Light at Divers Direct

I've got the Tec 40... good little light. but wouldn't dare use it as a primary dive light.

If you want to stay with Princeton Tec, check out their Shockwave II. It's 200 lumens or so. You can pick up a decent deal on the "last years models" as they came out with the "new and improved" that I think is 400 lumens.

You can get these prob for $50 to $89 bucks (guess w/o looking).

The Dorcy Dive Light is good. I use it as a backup, but some folks use it as a primary. it doesn't have a wide flood though.... and I'd like that a little better on a primary. still a good light for $45 or so.

I've gotten now where I don't even use my Tec 40's for diving anymore. they just don't put out much light compared to some of the new LED's now days.... but they'd be good for a backup.
